Four riders have withdrawn from Tirreno-Adriatico after the fourth stage of the Italian race.

One of the favourites to win the race, Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) crashed out of the competition. "Tom has sustained multiple bruises and abrasions to his chest, hand, arm and leg," said team Doctor Chris Jansen. "With no fractures, hospital treatment is not needed but Tom will need to take a few days off the bike before he can resume training."

"I'm really disappointed to be out of the race after the crash today," added Dumoulin. "I need to accept it, at least there are no fractures. I hope after some days of rest to resume training again and shift my focus to my next goals."

Another rider to call it quits during the fourth stage was Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo). The Italian had been suffering from pain in his knee and decided to stop to avoid causing any more damage, considering that he is set to start in Milano-Sanremo.

Other cyclists to withdraw from the race in the day were AG2R La Mondiale's Matteo Montaguti and Team EF Education First-Drapac's Daniel Moreno, who was also involved in a crash and couldn't get back onto the saddle.
