A cold has hit the roster of LottoNL-Jumbo at Paris-Nice. Three riders of the Dutch formation have already withdrawn from the race and one more is suffering from the symptoms.

Just before the start of the fifth stage of the French race, it was announced that Dylan Groenewegen and Lars Boom were withdrawing after a difficult night in which they couldn't get any sleep due to a cold.

During the stage, Norwegian youngster Amund Grondahl Jansen also retired because he was feeling bad. "It was a day for the team to quickly forget," said coach Nico Verhoeven. "Lars and Dylan had barely slept and therefore didn't start anymore.

"To finish the disaster, Grondahl Jansen and Tom Leezer were also struggling with the symptoms. Amund couldn't go any further and gave up."

Despite not feeling good, Leezer finished the stage at 11 minutes from winner Jerome Cousin. "Hopefully he will return tomorrow, but he didn't look too good," the coach explained.

The team now only has four riders, but Verhoeven still has good expectations for the stages to come. "In the coming days we hope that Timo Roosen can show beautiful things together with Paul Martens and Robert Gesink," he commented.
