BMC Racing team has won the first stage at Tirreno-Adriatico. The American squad completed the circuit of the Team Time Trial in 22 minutes and 19 seconds.

The first stage of the Italian race was 21.5 kilometres long in Lido di Camaiore. Movistar was the first team to have a go at the circuit and Sunweb, World TTT Champions, were the last.

Team Sky set the first competitive time at 22 minutes and 28 seconds and was removed from the leaders' hot seat by Mitchelton-Scott, which completed the route in 22 minutes and 23 seconds.

Some minutes later, one of the favourite teams for the stage, BMC, climbed to the first position by stopping the clock at 22 minutes and 19 seconds.

Sunweb, the last team to start and the one that had the potential to remove BMC from the hot seat, finished in fifth position with a time of 22 minutes and 44 seconds.

The first rider to cross the finish line for BMC, Damiano Caruso, took the leader's jersey on the first day of the race in his home country. His teammates Rohan Dennis and Patrick Bevin were second and third.
