Mitchelton-Scott's Caleb Ewan has won the Clasica de Almeria. The Australian rider was the fastest at the final sprint in Roquetas de Mar.

The 185.1-kilometre race started with an escape of seven riders that included Maxim Belkov (Katusha-Alpecin), Axel Journiaux (Direct Energie) and Rob Britton (Rally Cycling), among others. The front group managed to create a gap of almost four minutes with the peloton.

The escapees were reeled back in by a fast-paced peloton when it neared the last descent that took the riders to Almeria and Roquetas de Mar. LottoNL-Jumbo worked hard in the last kilometres to position its main man Danny van Poppel, but Ewan showed to have a stronger sprint and took the win.

Van Poppel and Timothy Dupont (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) completed the podium of the day. Ewan succeeds Magnus Cort Nielsen as the winner of the Spanish race.
