Sonny Colbrelli takes victory in stage 4 of Dubai Tour

Italian Sonny Colbrelli has won the fourth stage of the Dubai Tour. Elia Viviani remains in the overall lead.

The fourth stage began at Skydive Dubai and finished 172 kilometers later at Hatta Dam. The final consisted of a short but tough climb, although this did not keep the sprinters from dominating the stage.

A group of six with Robin Carpenter, Brandon McNulty, Christopher Williams, Xiaolong Sun, Simone Bevilacqua and Conor Dunne attacked in the opening phase and built an advantage of more than six minutes.

The group was slowly reduced as the stage went on, and at the end only McNulty was left in an attempt to keep the peloton behind him.

The American was reeled in however, leaving those in the pack to fight for the victory. The steep final climb saw Colbrelli of Bahrain Merida take the win ahead of Astana's Magnus Cort Nielsen and LottoNL-Jumbo rider Timo Roosen.

Race leader Elia Viviani finished in sixth place and keeps his overall lead with an advantage of two seconds over Cort Nielsen.
