The Director of the Vuelta a Andalucia/Ruta del Sol has reacted to the news of Chris Froome (Team Sky) starting his season in the race saying it is a "pleasure and an honour".

Froome announced that he will be appearing on the Spanish race for the third time, after finishing 50th in 2011 and winning it in 2015. The rider will return to racing after the episode of the adverse result for Salbutamol at the Vuelta a España.

The director of the race Joaquin Cuevas said to the Spanish news agency EFE that he already knew about Froome's participation for about two weeks and that he has been in contact with Team Sky all this time.

Cuevas mentioned that the four-time Tour de France winner isn't suspended after the adverse results in one of the samples taken at the 2017 Vuelta a España and that "he can compete because the UCI hasn't taken any decisions yet about his case".

The Director also commented that the rider will be going back to the place where he obtained the victory in 2015 when he won the mountain stage with the uphill finish at the Alto de Las Allanadas ahead of Alberto Contador.

"Three years later the race will be back on that climb and once again Froome will be with us. He knows that climb well," he added.
