LottoNL-Jumbo rider Daan Olivier has suffered a small fracture in his right knee during a crash at the Towards Zero Race Melbourne.

The rider shared the news on Twitter, posting a photo of him connected to tubes in a hospital bed.

"Crashed hard during today’s Towards Zero Race Melbourne," the Dutchman tweeted. "Looked for short time to the right to move up in the bunch and then forgot about the road islands. When I heard people warning me I was already to late and hit it full.

"As it looks now I have a small fracture in the inside of my right knee. This is a setback for me but the hunger for racing will only be bigger afterwards. See you soon! And thanks to LottoNL-Jumbo and Cadel Road Race for taking good care of me."

It hasn't been the best week for the 25-year-old, having already hit the ground in the Tour Down Under days earlier.

Olivier joined LottoNL-Jumbo in 2017 and won the Young rider classification of the Vuelta a Burgos in his first season with the team.
