Trek-Segafredo's Ryan Mullen has won the third stage of the Vuelta a San Juan. The Irishman was the fastest at the day's time trial while Filippo Ganna set a time that brought him to the first position of the General Classification.

The third stage in Argentina was an Individual Time Trial of 14.4 kilometres in San Juan. Quick-Step Floors started the stage with a good time of Alvaro Hodeg who was removed from the hot seat by UnitedHealthCare's Daniel Eaton.

Soon after, Quick-Step's Iljo Keisse stopped the clock at 19 minutes and 10 seconds, getting in the first place of the stage for only a moment until Trek-Segafredo's Ryan Mullen set a time of 17 minutes and 43 seconds, which gave him the victory of the day.

The time set by the Irishman was unbeatable and the men fighting for the General Classification set the goal of getting a good time to control the results. The standings of the time trial changed the entire overall classification ahead of the next stage that includes two first category climbs and one of the third category.

Filippo Ganna (UAE Team Emirates) climbed to the first position of the GC and is followed by Rafal Majka (Bora-hansgrohe) and Oscar Sevilla (Medellin-Inder). Omar Mendoza (Medellin-Inder) and Eduardo Sepulveda (Movistar) complete the top five of the overall classification.
