Australian rider Jason Lowndes was killed by a car while training in his home country. The rider was part of the Israel Cycling Academy team in 2017 and was set to move to JKT Condor in 2018.

The tragic death of the 23-year-old rider was announced by the Israeli team through its social media. "Jason, who just celebrated his 23rd birthday 8 days ago, was hit by a car while training today on his bike near his hometown in Bendigo, Victoria," read the announcement of the team.

"Jason raced for Israel Cycling Academy during the 2017 season and his constant broad smile, ever cheerful personality, and warm heart will be terribly missed forever by all of us."

The Australian became a professional in 2016 with the ProContinental team Drapac. That same year he finished in 6th position at the U23 World Championships, and in 2017 he moved to Israel Cycling Academy.

CyclingPub extends its condolences to the family, friends and teammates of Lowndes, as well as to the entire cycling community.
