Veteran rider Oscar Sevilla will lead Colombian team Medellin-Inder in the Vuelta a San Juan. The Spanish-Colombian rider will start his 20th season as a professional.

The 41-year-old has been living in Colombia since 2010 and finished second in the last edition of the Argentinian race, just behind Bauke Mollema. "To finish second was not a surprise for me because I often train with riders like Esteban Chaves and Egan Bernal, but it made me very happy because I prepared for it like if I was going to the Tour de France," he said.

Sevilla, who took the White Jersey at the French grand tour and was second in the Vuelta a España in 2001, mentioned that he continues in cycling because it is a sport that makes him happy. " I don't need to do this anymore. I continue my career because of passion because I feel happy pedaling and training," he commented. "I am still the first one to go out to train and I still feel butterflies in my stomach when I am in competition, which is a good sign.

"In my house, everybody supports me and treats me like a king because when I come back from training I find a plate of fruit prepared for me."

Sevilla has a complete Colombian life and explains why the country experiences cycling the way it does. "The football selection has a lot of fans and paralyses the country, but cycling is the king sport. In many cities, Bogota included, on Sundays many streets get closed and turn into cycling roads," he explained.

"Many people that before played tennis or golf, now practise cycling. On the weekends sometimes I go to the climb of Letras, which has a summit at 3670 metres, and there I see business people, singers, actors and other famous people. Professional cycling is strong in Colombia, but recreational cycling is stronger."
