Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde is set to make his return to the peloton at the Mallorca Challenge in January.

The Movistar leader has been out of competition since his bad crash during the prologue of the Tour de France in Dusseldorf, Germany, and will as such have spent more than half a year on the sidelines.

The Spanish race takes place from the 25th to the 28th of January and is set to attract several other WorldTour teams. Sky, Trek-Segafredo, Lotto-Soudal and Bora-hansgrohe are all expected to make their appearance.

Team Sky is set to field two of its new signings, Spaniard David de la Cruz and Colombian talent Egan Bernal.

Also present in Mallorca is three-times World Champion Peter Sagan, who will get to compete against Lotto-Soudal sprinter Andre Greipel.

Trek-Segafredo is planning to field a strong formation including Bauke Mollema and John Degenkolb.
