The first four stages of the 2018 Vuelta a España will all take place in the province of Malaga. The classification is set to be defined from the start.

The 73rd edition of the Spanish race begins with a time trial of eight kilometers in the city of Malaga, as had already been announced before. The region in the south of Spain is to enjoy much more cycling however, as the following three stages all take place in the area as well.

On the second day of racing, the climbers get to test their legs right away with a stage from Marbella to Calamito del Rey, where Colombian Esteban Chaves won in 2015.

Sprinters that will be daring enough to take part in the Vuelta will get a chance on day three, from Mijas to Alhaurin de la Torre, but will once again have to take a role in the background for the fourth stage, which begins in Velez and ends on top of La Alfaguara in the province of Granada, 180 kilometers later.

The full course of the Vuelta will be announced on January 13.
