AG2R La Mondiale's Roman Bardet has announced that he will ride the Strade Bianche for the first time in 2018.

The Frenchman wants to take a part in Classic races while preparing for the Tour de France. Even though he considered riding Paris-Roubaix to take a taste of the cobbled roads that will be featured in the 2018 French Grand Tour, he and his team came to the conclusion that it was too risky.

"It is a race that makes me dream," said Bardet to French newspaper Le Monde. "The team knows that I'm looking forward to riding some classics and that they have to let go of it a bit by allowing me to satiate my primary instinct.

"I would like to ride elbow-to-elbow with classic runners while I minimise any risk-taking. I think it is a good compromise."

The participation of the rider in Strade Bianche would mean that he will not start in Paris-Nice, leaving the door open for a race like Tirreno-Adriatico as he looks for a new routine that would give him different results.
