Movistar's Richard Carapaz has been taken out of the Ecuadorian Cycling Team after being found drunk during the Bolivarian Games.

Carapaz, along with Jonathan Caicedo and Jonathan Narvaez, was suspended from the team because of misbehaviour related to alcohol in the city of Santa Marta, Colombia, as was confirmed by the president of the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee Augusto Moran. He confirmed that the three riders were found drunk in a restaurant.

"Someone called me late at night and after analysing all the documented and testimonial evidence of the people that were present at the moment, we took the decision to separate them immediately from the team and send them back to Ecuador," he said to Ecuadorian radio station Sonorama.

"The witnesses were people in high positions, not only of the Olympic Committee but also from the Sports Ministry."

The Ecuatorian Cycling Federation will now analyse the evidence and they will take a decision about the punishment for the three riders.

Carapaz was one of the big candidates to take a Golden Medal at the Bolivarian Games.
