Team Sky's Gianni Moscon has suffered a fracture of the wrist during a training session in the gym. The rider will be off the bike for around four weeks.

The Italian, who still doesn't have a contract extension with the British squad, was doing some balance exercises at the gym when he fell over and on his hand. What started with a minor swelling ended up having been a fracture of one of the wrist bones.

"I was doing the exercises and fell back," Moscon commented to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport. "Very dumb. Usually, you don't get anything with an accident like that and then I had a bump that started swelling and hurting more."

The rider suffered a scaphoid fracture and successfully underwent surgery. He will now have to recover for around 40 days.

This is the last episode of an eventful year for the Italian rider. In the spring Moscon was suspended by Team Sky after he racially abused FDJ's Kevin Reza, then in September he was disqualified at the road race of the World Championships of Bergen for receiving a long tow by the Italian team car and in October he was involved in a crash of FDJ's Sebastien Reichenbach during the Tre Valli Varesine that caused the Swiss an elbow fracture and is being investigated by the UCI and Italian authorities.
