Belgian cyclist Victor Campenaerts aims to broaden his horizon and not just focus on winning time trials, which is currently his favorite discipline.

The 26-year-old spent the last two years at LottoNL-Jumbo but is set to continue his career at Lotto Soudal in his home country.

"Lotto is a Belgian team and they were looking for a top rider, preferably a Belgian," Campenaerts told

"I perfectly matched this profile. In 2018 I will get the freedom to look for my own chances. That was very important to me. I also talked to other teams, but they could not guarantee that."

The European Time Trial Champion would like to do well in short stage races, rather than just win time trials.

"I would like to be in races like the BinckBank Tour, the Tour of Britain or the Tour of Denmark," he said. Top events like Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico may lie ahead as well but the rider doesn't quite feel ready for those: "I am not that far yet," he explained.
