Colombian rider Carlos Betancur has big plans for the upcoming season, and refuses to be anonymous in the peloton in the remaining years of his career.

The Movistar rider spoke to Spanish sports paper Marca, explaining that his current team has helped him find his way back to top form.

"Without a doubt, I have begun to feel like a rider again at Movistar. The results show it. And it will be a lot better next year. I will keep trying, doing things well, like a professional," he said.

"I promised it to myself. I don't want to be another one of the bunch, fighting for arriving within the time limit. Movistar is a very good team, which makes everything available to you. If you don't win races or don't do your work well, it's because you don't want to."

The South American hopes to have chances to ride for his own success in 2018, as he claims to struggle with the role of helper.

"I really respect the work of the helpers and they often have more strength than a leader. At times I see Imanol (Erviti) or Jasha (Sutterlin) ride and I realize that I just couldn't do that. It's not that I don't want to, but I just can't. So, I have to be a leader or a joint leader."

Betancur joined Movistar in 2016 and has since ridden all three grand tours for the Spanish formation, with both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España on his schedule in 2017.
