Tour de France boss Christian Prudhomme wants Team Sunweb's Tom Dumoulin to take part in next year's Tour de France.

The ASO director is hoping for the Giro d'Italia winner to choose the Tour as one of his goals for the upcoming season, which would potentially complicate matters for other GC riders aiming to take the Yellow Jersey.

"Come to the Tour, Tom," Prudhomme said when given an opportunity by Dutch broadcaster NOS. "You get to test yourself against a rider with the same kind of qualities as yours: Chris Froome.

"The Tour de France is the biggest cycling race in the world. You have a French name, you are Dutch. The first man I ever saw win the Tour was Jan Janssen (in 1968). Come to the Tour: From July 7 to July 29."

As yet, it is entirely unknown whether Dumoulin is actually planning to ride the 2018 Tour de France, or will instead choose to focus on the Giro d'Italia and possibly the Vuelta a España.

The 26-year-old skipped the Tour de France this year but did take part in the four previous editions. He won two stages in the 2016 edition, but later crashed out and fractured his arm, threatening his participation in the Olympic time trial in Rio de Janeiro. He did eventually take part and won Silver.
