Giro d'Italia champion Tom Dumoulin of Sunweb wants to avoid setting goals for the longer term and rather sets his targets one season at a time.

The Dutchman said this in an interview with his home country's broadcaster NOS, adding that he doesn't feel a need to "win the Tour de France five times".

"I like to set challenges for myself, and to succeed," he added. "That is what really gives me satisfaction.

"I'm not at all worried about where I will be in five years. At the end of the song I will look back on what I have or haven't been able to achieve."

Dumoulin did reveal one goal he would like to reach, which is to win all three grand tours at some point, but admits that this isn't really on his mind right now. "It would be really cool to do that, but that will be in a long time from now."

It is currently unknown which races the 26-year-old, who beat Nairo Quintana and Vincenzo Nibali to win the Giro in May, will focus on for 2018.
