Peter Sagan has announced that the first race of his 2018 season will be the Tour Down Under in Australia.

The confirmation comes days after the current World Champion had announced that his season was over after getting his third title in a row, in order to dedicate himself to family matters, like the birth of his first child.

The Slovak thinks that this is the "perfect" race for him to show his new Rainbow jersey. "I’m excited to be starting the 2018 season with the rainbow stripes across my back again in Australia at the Santos Tour Down Under," he said to the Australian newspaper The Advertiser.

"It is the perfect start to the UCI World Tour season each year, it has it all — a challenging and tough course, warm weather and the passionate fans that cheer for us day in day out no matter what."

Sagan also took part in this year's edition of the race, where he was close to the victory in three stages. "It is important to get the season off to a good start with Bora-hansgrohe, and there is no better place to do this than South Australia at the TDU," he commented.

This will be the only race of Sagan in Australia before he heads back to the European season.
