Matteo Trentin (Quick-Step Floors) has closed his 2017 season and his period with Quick-Step with a victory at Paris-Tours.

At the end of a season in which the rider scored top 10 results in races like the Trofeo Ligueglia, Omloop Het Niewusblad, Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne and the Italian National Championships and won four stages in the Vuelta a España, Trentin got one last victory with his current team.

At Paris-Tours, after the peloton regrouped, a bunch of attacks left a reduced group in which the rider tried to profit of his own and his team's strengths. "The light rain and wet roads made for a strung out bunch, so on the first hill I said to myself it won’t hurt to give it a go," he explained. "A first group formed, but then I went again and Niki (Terpstra) came across.

With the help of his Dutch teammate, Trentin managed to create a gap with the reduced pack and got valuable help ahead of the final sprint. "We played perfect tactics and Niki did an incredible work and a provided a superb lead-out in the last kilometre."

Trentin became a professional at Quick-Step in 2011 and now came the moment for him to embark on a new challenge by moving to Orica-Scott. "It’s fantastic to end the season in such a manner. I want to thank Quick-Step Floors for these seven years, it was an honour to ride with them and I’m proud of bringing down the curtain on my time here with a second victory in Paris-Tours."
