Wanty-Groupe Gobert has signed Bart De Clercq. The Belgian makes the move after seven seasons at Lotto-Soudal.

The rider brings along the WorldTour experience he gathered at Lotto-Soudal, where he rode 11 Grand Tours and took victories in races like the Giro on Montevergine de Mecogliano and the Tour de Pologne, in which he finished second in the overall classification in 2015.

"It will be special to join a new team after seven years," said the rider. "I was charmed by the interest of Wanty-Groupe Gobert. I felt that they wanted to have me in the team and that gave me confidence. I thought it over and now want to focus on this challenge. The first meetings and team training camp in a completely new environment will be exciting for me."

The 31-year-old is happy to share his experience with younger riders. "I look forward to working with young talent like Guillaume Martin," he commented. "In the coming two years I will make a combination of going for my own chances and on the other hand assisting riders like Martin in the mountains. Since my studies sports science and teacher physical education, I am very interested in training and nutrition. I often read about it and would like to pass on such things to younger riders."

The team's sports director Hilaire Van der Schueren thinks the rider will be a good addition to Wanty-Groupe Gobert's squad. "Bart is a rider with a wealth of experience in Grand Tours," he explained. "Over there we want to play him out as a big help for Guillaume Martin in the mountains of the Tour.

"In addition, he is able to attack in the third week of a Grand Tour, a type of rider we missed in the past Tour. He can certainly fulfil that role. But I am also convinced that we can make more of him in a lot of other races, including in the final of the Ardennes classics."
