American talent Logan Owen joins Slipstream Sports

Slipstream Sports has announced the arrival of American talent Logan Owen, who has spent the last four years racing for Axeon Hagens Berman.

Owen has a background in cyclo-cross, but made the switch to the road in 2013 and became the first American to win the U23 edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 2016. A year earlier, he had already won a stage at the Tour of Utah.

This season, the rider won a stage at the Volta ao Alentejo, his first victory for his team outside the United States.

In order to continue his progress as a road cyclist, Owen decided to abandon cyclo-cross altogether in 2016.

"Regardless of if I got that contract or not, it was the right decision, he explained. "I needed to put all my eggs into one basket to see what I could do. I'm beyond stoked that it all worked out and that I can make this next step up to the WorldTour with Slipstream Sports."

At just 22, the rider has yet to find his ideal discipline, although he particularly looks at the big spring races. "I tend to be better at Classics-type races. Getting to learn from Sep (Vanmarcke) is one of the biggest reasons that I’m looking forward to the spring. I’m excited about all my new teammates actually. Uran is a legend. I already know Alex Howes, so it will be cool to race with him.

"Vaughters seems to have a really good plan to develop me," he added. "I’ve seen this team support the development of young riders over the last couple years, which has been really cool, and it gives me confidence in the team’s ability to help me develop as the top level of the sport."
