Training crash finishes Oscar Gatto's season

Oscar Gatto has suffered a crash during training that has left him out of action for the rest of the season.

The rider of Astana, who this season won the prologue of the Tour of Austria, crashed during a home road training, suffering hard hits to his head and face. The team published some images of the rider's battered helmet proving that the accident could have been a lot worse.

Just after the incident, the Italian was taken to the hospital for a more detailed medical check, which didn't reveal any fractures. Gatto suffered many contusions, abrasions and bruises all over his body, including his head and face.

Although the initial medical advice was to stay off the bike for a week, Astana hints at the end of the season for the Italian to give him the time to recover completely.
