PostNord Danmark Rundt: Max Walscheid takes stage as Mads Pedersen confirms overall victory

Team Sunweb's Max Walscheid has won the last stage of the PostNord Danmark Rundt. Mads Pedersen of Trek-Segafredo secured the overall victory.

The last of five stages started in Ebeltoft and finished 198 kilometers later in the city of Aarhus.

A group of seven riders spent most of the day ahead of the peloton but Trek-Segafredo did well to control the pack, never allowing the gap to become too big to close.

The remaining leaders were caught in the final kilometers of the race and late attempt by Riwal Platform's Nicolai Brøchner came to nothing. Walscheid was one of the first riders to initiate the sprint and the German's effort was strong enough for him to finish ahead of Pedersen.

The latter could not complain though as he added another few bonus seconds to secure his overall win. His key rival Michael Valgren of Astana finished in fifth place and saw the gap between the two grow to 15 seconds.

Pedersen succeeds Valgren is winner of the race and his victory is the fourth in a row by a Danish rider. Wilco Kelderman was the last non-Dane to win the race, in 2013.
