Mark Cavendish is making his return to competition in the 2017 Tour of Britain. The rider was out of competition since the crash against Peter Sagan at the Tour de France.

Dimension Data is going to the British Tour to defend the title it has won two years in a row, first with Edvald Boasson Hagen in 2015 and then with Steven Cummings in 2016.

The 6-men team will be led once again by Boasson Hagen. The Norwegian will have the company of Cavendish, who will test his shape after the crash in the French Grand Tour that resulted in a shoulder fracture.

"It is great to be heading back to the OVO Energy Tour of Britain this week," said Sport Director Roger Hammond. "As this event has grown in stature year-on-year, so has our team and the last two years in particular were fantastic for us. We always receive a huge amount of support in the UK for the team and for Qhubeka.

"With our partners, Dimension Data, Deloitte and Nederburg having such a large in presence over here too, the Tour of Britain is a very special and key event for our team. We will no doubt be looking to put on a good show once again, we always start a race with the goal to win, this year's Tour of Britain will be no different."
