Romanian rider Serghei Tvetcov has won the third stage of the Colorado Classic. Manuel Senni is the new overall race leader.

Saturday's stage began in the city of Denver and led the peloton to Peak Highway to return in Denver 130 kilometers (81 miles) later.

A breakaway of five riders was formed in the opening phase but was later reeled in by a larger chase group. BMC Racing Team's Senni attacked on the Golden Gate climb and was joined by Tvetcov.

The duo increased its lead on the descent going into Denver and had over a minute on their chasers by the team they reached the last kilometers.

Tvetcov, riding for Jelly Belly, won the sprint ahead of the Italian. The chase group finished at 54 seconds with Travis McCabe of UnitedHealthCare winning the battle for third place.

Senni did get rewarded for the hard work as he moves into the lead in the general classification with an advantage of 15 seconds over Tvetcov. Cannondale-Drapac's Alex Howes follows at 31 seconds.

The inaugural Colorado Classic finishes on Sunday with a 120km (74 miles) stage in Denver.
