Pieter Serry has extended his contract with Quick-Step Floors. The rider will remain at the Belgian formation until 2019.

The Belgian becomes the sixth rider to sign a new contract with the team. Even though his first part of the 2017 season hasn't been as expected due to a collarbone injury, Serry helped the team through a successful Giro d'Italia.

"I am very happy here, so it was a no-brainer to renew," said the rider. "After five years, this team is like a family to me, the professionalism of the guys here is incredible, and in the end it really wasn’t a question of staying or not. It’s an honour to ride for the best team in the world."

Serry has become an important part of the team. "I am here to help Quick-Step Floors, to control the peloton and to give my everything, it’s what I am really good at. Ok, due to bad luck, this season hasn’t been the best for me, but next year I want to be there for our leaders in the big races, help them nab important victories and get my chance in the smaller ones."

Quick-Step Floors' Patrick Lefevere is also satisfied with this extension. "Pieter Serry is with us for five years now and we are glad he’ll continue for two more," he commented.

"He is a rider you can always rely on, as he supports the team in every race, be it on the flat or on the climbs; his experience, determination and fighting spirit are qualities we prize and which make him an important member of our outfit."
