Swiss rider Stefan Kung has won the second stage of the BinckBank Tour, setting the best time in a time trial near the city of The Hague.

The nine kilometers long course was located in the town of Voorburg, next to The Hague, and suffered from heavy rain throughout the day.

The circumstances were expected to be better earlier on the day, causing most of the specialists to choose a relatively early starting spot. Bora-hansgrohe's Maciej Bodnar was only the second rider to start and immediately set a top time of 11'02".

BMC Racing Team's Kung was even faster however, beating the Polish rider's time by four seconds. Kung's time proved to be good enough to take the victory as Tom Dumoulin came in third at five seconds while Jos van Emden lost time by taking the wrong turn and Tony Martin's aspirations were ended by a crash.

Peter Sagan, who won the opening stage, finished at 25 seconds and loses his lead in the overall classification to Kung.
