Even though he didn't get the stage victory on the last day of the Vuelta a Burgos, Mikel Landa (Sky) did secure the overall win. Now it is time to think about what it is to come.

The Spaniard got his first professional victory in Lagunas de Neila, the same place where the 2017 Vuelta a Burgos finished. But he didn't get the stage victory this time because during the last kilometres he thought the pace was enough for him to win the race, leaving the day's win for someone else.

"I had two rivals with me and one of them was a former teammate," said Landa to Spanish news agency EFE. "Why wouldn't I give them the stage victory? I was not going to lose the more than 40 seconds that I had over Enric Mas and the minute I had over Miguel Angel Lopez."

The rider accepted that the first day he got the leader's jersey he was surprised and it was just a continuation of the work at the Tour de France. But Landa is pleased about achieving an objective he had from the end of the French Grand Tour.

"I went to the Tour of France to work, then I finished fourth and I welcomed it. I came here to win, I won and I'm very satisfied," he explained.

After this victory, it is time for Landa to decide what is the next step in his career. "Now I have to enjoy, think and choose a future," he commented. "I have proven in the Giro and the Tour that I can fight for one of the big races."
