Mikel Landa of Team Sky remained in the overall lead of the Tour of Burgos after the second stage, and is ready to face the decisive stage of Thursday.

The second stage finished with a bunch sprint won by Matteo Trentin (Quick-Step Floors). Landa arrived safely, which was his main job for the day. "We didn't want to lose the leader's jersey and at the same time we tried to safe energy because tomorrow is an important day," said the rider at the end of the stage to the Spanish website Zikloland.

The third stage of the race will have four climbs of the third category, one of the first and a final hors-category to the Picon Blanco de Espinosa de los Monteros, for the first time in the history of the race.

The last climb is nine kilometres long, with an average incline of 9% including several stretches of 12% and 13%, reaching 17% in the last kilometre. "It is a very difficult finish. I don't know it but everybody says that it is difficult, and we have to keep the lead of the General Classification.

The main objective of the Spaniard is to arrive to Lagunas de Neila, the finish line of the last stage on Saturday, wearing the Purple Jersey. "It would be a beautiful day. If tomorrow I get an important advantage, I hope I can keep it up to Neila. I want that very much, I just hope that my body can resist a few more days."
