LA VUELTA CICLISTA A ESPAñA

Organisers of La Vuelta have big expectations for its upcoming edition. They expect to have more than two Grand Tour winners for the next edition of the race.

General and Technical directors of La Vuelta, Javier Guillen and Fernando Escartin, have big ambitions for the next edition of the Spanish Grand Tour. "We are expecting the participation of Chris Froome, current champion of the Tour de France, as well as of (Alberto) Contador, the best cyclist of the year (Alejandro) Valverde, (Fabio) Aru, (Vincenzo) Nibali, winner of the three Grand Tours, and (Richie) Porte," said Guillen to Spanish news agency EFE.

"We also know that (Tom) Dumoulin, recent winner of the Giro d'Italia and who is not going to the Tour, likes the stage of the Cumbre del Sol," he added. The Dutchman took the victory on this same stage two years ago after a last kilometer battle against Froome.

Escartin is equally optimistic about the quality of the riders that could participate in La Vuelta 2017. "If we can't have them all, at least we will have many of the best. The preparation works with shape peaks and those who did only the Giro can be very good in La Vuelta. Also, those big riders that for many reasons can't shine in the Tour, can always take revenge in the Vuelta," he said.

Guillen confirmed that he will be travelling to France on the next days to try to convince riders and teams to start in the Spanish Grand Tour.
