CCC Sprandi Polkowice to start in Amstel Gold Race despite stolen bikes

Procontinental team CCC Sprandi Polkowice have had all their bikes stolen in the Netherlands. Despite this, the team will take part in the upcoming Amstel Gold Race.

In the night between Thursday and Friday burglars broke into the Polish team's truck and stole all the bikes. "It happened on a guarded parking lot in front of our hotel in Valkenburg.

"All 18 bikes and spare wheels were stolen, despite the fact that the truck was equipped with car alarm and the door was blocked by another team car, parked right in front of it. We don’t know how the burglars managed to go around the security system," said the team's Director Sportive Piotr Wadecki.

But the team said that their riders will still take part in the UCI World Tour Amstel Gold Race, which will take place in the Netherlands on April 16th.

The 2017 edition of the race will be 264.6 kilometers long between the cities of Maastricht and Valkenburg. This will be the fourth consecutive appearance of the Polish team in the course and the best result they have achieved is a ninth place in 2015 by Maciej Paterski.
